Attempt all the questions.

  1. Read the following passage and answer the questions given below. [15]

Today a new first generation of immigrants is pursuing its dream of a new life in the United States. The backgrounds and experiences of these immigrants are in some ways different from those of the typical European immigrants of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Although Europeans are still arriving, the majority of contemporary immigrants come from Asia and Latin America and included refugees from war-torn parts of the world.

In addition, some writers have claimed that a greater proportion of the new immigrants are well educated, but this claim has been challenged and remains unproven. However, it is clear that many of the better trained, the more prosperous immigrants are not moving into ethnic neighborhoods but instead favor middle-class suburbs. Lastly, the United States of the twenty-first century is no longer expanding its industrial base. Nor is it creating the number of factory jobs that were available for the earlier immigrants.

The differences between modern immigrants and earlier European immigrants cannot be ignored in any thorough analysis of the topic. The difference, however, should not be interpreted to mean that the lives and attitudes of modern, immigrants are completely different from those of the Europeans who preceded them. In fact, today’s immigrants in may ways are following the patterns that were established by earlier immigrants.

Although some new immigrants live in middle-class suburbs, Asian and Latin ethnic neighborhoods are alive and well in cities across the United States. For many of today’s immigrants, these neighborhoods traditionally functioned for Europeans-as the place to find employment or start a business that serves the ethnic community.

The developing world is concerned about the illness that would disappear if basic health programs could be affordable. OR,

Write a four paragraph essay on climate change and its potential effects.

Ans: Climate change is one of the major problems of the world. It has caused a significant increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Overpopulation is the main factor to bring climate change in the world. Due to it into the desert. Industrialization is another main reason for the increased presence of harmful gases in the environment. Many countries have experienced some degree of industrialization which depends on the burning of coal, oil, and gas to produce energy. The burning of coal is known to be the chief human source of carbon dioxide emissions.

Human beings have destroyed natural resources and expanded the industrialization blindly for their immediate benefits. In order to make their lives more comfortable and luxurious, they have produced harmful gases like carbon dioxide (CO2), chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). And methane (CH4). These gases allow sunlight to pass through and warm the earth. It is clear that the main reason for the increased presence of these gases in the atmosphere is the growth of industry within the last century.

There is a great deal of impact of climate change on the earth. Due to the greenhouse effect, the temperature of the earth raises significantly. It melts the accumulated layer of snow causing flooding. It raises the sea level and people living in the nearby sea are in vulnerable condition. Scientists have argued that there will be serious consequences for natural ecosystems, agriculture, and human settlements. The forest belt would be under immense strain. The possible result of global warming is the massive destruction of forest and of other ecosystems worldwide.

Similarly, it also reduces agricultural production. Higher temperatures are likely to be the reduction in rainfall. The massive reduction of rainfall will decrease agricultural production. The impact on the supply of domestically produced food in the world would be disastrous. Greenhouse gases also cause natural calamities such as land sliding, flooding, soil erosion, drought, over rain and so on. There will be unbearable consequences of global warming if we do not think about it. Likewise, the accumulated layers of smoke produced by the industrialization reduce the ozone layers and ultra-violet rays directly come on the earth. These ultra-violet rays harm us causing cancer and other diseases.
